Boob Tape, Don’t Fail Me Now!

Boob tape blunder: As weird as it feels sometimes, people want to see you on your social media and blog. They want to get a glimpse into your life and see who you are. YOU are the reason they follow you!

This means having lots of content that includes you — photos of you, stories about you and your life and your work, and even videos that show off your personality and educate people about what you teach and sharing what you love or believe in or care about.

Also, it is so important to have professional photos and not just a phone snap!

Knowing all of this, when writing posts for social media and entries for my blog, I realized the only professional photos I had of myself were either four years old, or I was pregnant.

Yikes. It was time for me to do my own photoshoot.

My dear photographer friend Melissa Stone and I decided we were going to photograph each other. I had ordered a really beautiful lace bodysuit for my studio and I was dying to wear it.

Now, my body is not quite the same as it was before having kids and now that I’m 42 years old. Not that I’m that bothered by it — I actually love being in my forties and I accept that my body is not always going to be what it was when I was in my twenties.

First of all, I originally planned to wear the bodysuit as the shirt. But, I hadn’t tried it on prior to the photoshoot and I quickly realized I needed to problem solve.

I basically looked like I was wearing a really bad ice skating outfit.

So, I added the sweater. Then, there is breastfeeding. Breastfeeding (along with age) can really do a number on the “girls”. So, when I considered wearing this new bodysuit, I knew provisions were going to need to be made.

The bodysuit is extremely low-cut in the front. Like, there is no bra that could possibly go this low. So I took to Google:

“How do I keep my boobs up in a bodysuit”

Google showed me lots of photos. I was so excited to see one of Kim Kardashian using gaffer boob tape! If you don’t know what gaffer tape is, it’s tape that photographers use in their studio to tape all sorts of things. I had a roll of both black and white in my studio, so this was perfect!

Never having used boob tape before, I wasn’t exactly sure how much I needed. The massive amount that Kim K had on was not going to work for me because you would be able to see it for sure. So, I guessed and used the amount that I thought looked pretty good!

Fast forward to the photoshoot. Melissa is now photographing me walking down the street and I feel it. I feel one boob come loose. Shit. I didn’t bring extra tape with me. Total boob tape rookie move. Okay, this is good tape, so I should be able to re-stick it. I tried, but it was only sticking for a few seconds at a time. It was like, stick and quick, shoot!!

We were laughing so hard at this point. Just a mom trying to wear a damn bodysuit. In the end, we got some great shots before the tape fail and some after the letdown.

I posted this photo on Instagram and received so many beautiful comments. It really made my day. And, at the same time, I sort of felt like a farce knowing my gaffer taped boobs were hidden under there.

Ahh, well. Now you know my secret and now you know to BRING EXTRA BOOB TAPE.
